Marie Sweeney

Obituary of Marie Sweeney

Marie Sweeney entered into eternal rest on September 18, 2024. She was 92 years old.

Born to parents Anthony and Susan Paratore, Marie grew up in the Bronx, cultivating a close relationship with her aunts Mary, Anna, and Pearl. She enjoyed school – because, as she says, “school was fun in those days. They didn’t make it so hard.” She played on the softball and basketballs teams, attended her high school’s football games with her friends, ice skated at in the park, and hung out at the pool at the Bronx Beach Club.

Some of her fondest childhood memories were of Christmases and Easters. Her love of holidays continued to grow as the family did. She hosted Christmas brunch every year and only forgot to bring dinner to the Easter gathering one time in her nine-plus decades of life.

Throughout those decades, she came to realize that success is not measured by job title or financial status, but by happiness. And Marie was happiest when she was with her family – a family that was remarkably blessed to have had her in their lives for so long.

Marie was steadfast in her faith; she prayed the rosary daily, never missed Sunday mass, and made every effort to keep Christ at the center of her life.

Marie was greeted at Heaven’s gate by her late husband, Frank Sweeney, beloved daughter, Kathleen Sweeney, sister Connie, and lifelong friend, Anna Bosco.

Her spirit is carried on by her 5 children: Kevin (Colleen) Sweeney, Patricia (Kenneth) Jensen, Barbara (Gary) Schober, Elizabeth (John) Procaccino, and Maureen (David) Marcello, 14 grandchildren: Kevin (Terra-Lynn) Sweeney, Thomas (Emily) Sweeney, Matthew (Sara) Jensen, Kristen (Andrew) Gonzalez, Caitlin (Julio) Fernandez, Laura (Allen) Rosner, Brendan Schober, Andrew (Courtney) Procaccino, Nicholas (Danielle) Marcello, Lauren (Vasilios) Procaccino, Bradley Schober, Alexandra (Timothy) Marcello, Michael Procaccino, and Daniel Marcello, and 16 great-grandchildren: Madaline Sweeney, Daniel Sweeney, Gavin Sweeney, Lochlan Sweeney, Benjamin Gonzalez, Juliana Gonzalez, Gabriella Gonzalez, Ryan Sweeney, Emma Jensen, Evelyn Sweeney, Hailey Gonzalez, Liliana Fernandez, Avery Jensen, Siena Marcello, Jude Rosner, and Leo Fernandez.

She is also survived by sister Phyllis (John) Caio, many nieces and nephews, and an endless network of extended family and true friends.
